Punjab CIP 2027: What Changed in the PG Induction Merit Formula (30 to 100 Marks)
Punjab has replaced its 30-mark Central Induction Policy (CIP) formula with a new 100-mark formula for PG induction. It applies from the January 2027 induction for FCPS, MD, MS and MDS seats through the Punjab Residency Program (PRP). The biggest change: your UHS PGET score now decides three quarters of your merit.
Here is what changed, what it means for you, and how to work out your new score.
Old formula vs new formula
| Component | Old (17 March 2026, July 2026 induction) | New (August 2026, January 2027 onwards) |
|---|---|---|
| Entry test | MDCAT: 2 marks | UHS PGET: 75 marks |
| MBBS / BDS aggregate | 15 marks | 15 marks |
| University positions | 3 marks (0.6 each for MBBS, 0.75 for BDS) | 5 marks (1 each for MBBS, 1.25 for BDS) |
| House job | 5 at parent institution, otherwise 2.5 | 5 at your own college’s attached hospital in Punjab, otherwise 2.5 |
| FCPS Part-I or JCAT | 5 marks | No longer counted |
| Total | 30 | 100 |
What this means for you
- PGET matters most. PGET is scored out of 200 (Paper I plus Paper II) and converted to 75 marks, so every 10 PGET marks you gain adds 3.75 to your merit. No other part of the formula comes close.
- MDCAT and your FCPS-I attempt no longer add marks. You still need FCPS Part-I to register for FCPS training with CPSP, but passing it on the first attempt no longer gives you extra merit.
- Your MBBS aggregate counts for less. It is still 15 marks, but that is now 15% of the total instead of half.
- University positions are worth more: up to 5 marks instead of 3.
- There is a PGET passing bar. Candidates are reported to need the 75th percentile in PGET to be considered for induction (Notification No. SO(ME-I) 7-1/2026 of 9 July 2026, as reported). Check the exact cut-off on the official notice.
Worked example
An MBBS doctor scores 150 out of 200 in PGET, has an aggregate of 700 out of 1,000, one university position, and did the house job at their own college’s hospital:
| PGET: 150 ÷ 200 × 75 | 56.25 |
| Aggregate: 700 ÷ 1,000 × 15 | 10.50 |
| University positions: 1 × 1 | 1.00 |
| House job at own college’s hospital | 5.00 |
| Total merit | 72.75 / 100 |
Our merit calculator now uses the new 100-mark formula. If you saved a Punjab score with it before 9 November 2026, recalculate it.

Frequently asked questions
Does this apply to Sindh?
No. Sindh central induction has its own 100-mark formula, built on the MBBS aggregate, professional attempts, the entry test, house job and research. The merit calculator covers both.
I passed FCPS-I on my first attempt. Do I lose those marks?
Under the new formula FCPS-I no longer adds merit marks. You still need it to register for FCPS training, so it remains a requirement, just not a scoring factor.
How is my PGET score converted?
Your combined score out of 200 (Paper I plus Paper II) is divided by 200 and multiplied by 75. A PGET score of 160 gives 60 merit marks; 120 gives 45.
Are last session’s closing merits still useful?
Not directly. Closing merits up to July 2026 were out of 30, so they cannot be compared with scores out of 100. Closing merits under the new formula will be known after the January 2027 merit lists. Selected candidates can share theirs on our closing merits page.
