South City Hospital (Pvt.) Ltd., Karachi, one of the city’s modern tertiary care hospitals, has announced its Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) induction for 2026. The Department of Postgraduate Medical Education is accepting profiles for residency and training positions across six programmes: FCPS in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Diagnostic Radiology and General Surgery, the MRCEM (Emergency Medicine) and MRCP (Internal Medicine) training programmes, and a one-year Fellowship in Aesthetic Surgery.
Residents will be paid a monthly salary ranging from PKR 120,000 (Resident I) to PKR 145,000 (Resident IV), while Fellows will receive PKR 175,000 per month, along with annual, sick and maternity leave. Selection for residency programmes is through an entrance test followed by interviews, and the programmes commence on 1 January 2027. Frequently asked questions
Can I apply for the FCPS residency without passing FCPS Part-I?
No. According to the advertisement, all three four-year FCPS residency positions require FCPS Part-I to have been passed in the same specialty you are applying for.
Is FCPS Part-I required for the MRCP or MRCEM programmes?
No. The MRCP (Internal Medicine) and MRCEM (Emergency Medicine) programmes require MBBS with a one-year house job. Prior experience in Medicine and Allied specialties (for MRCP) or in the Emergency Department (for MRCEM) will be given preference.
Who is eligible for the senior residency in General Surgery?
Candidates who have completed two years of FCPS training in General Surgery. Those who have cleared the IMM will be given preference.
What is the salary for residents and fellows?
Resident I receives PKR 120,000 per month, rising to PKR 128,000 (Resident II), PKR 136,000 (Resident III) and PKR 145,000 (Resident IV). Fellows receive PKR 175,000 per month.
