
The Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Institute of Trauma (SMBBIT) in Karachi is currently accepting applications for its Postgraduate Training Programs for Session 2026-B. Interested and eligible candidates must apply online by Tuesday, 05th May, 2026, at 11:59 p.m..
Programs Offered
The following programs are available for the upcoming session:
- FCPS-II Anaesthesiology is a four-year postgraduate training program requiring candidates to have cleared FCPS Part-I in the relevant field.
- MCPS Anaesthesiology is a two-year postgraduate training program that requires an MBBS degree with a one-year House Job certificate.
- FCPS-II Emergency Medicine is a five-year program requiring FCPS Part-I clearance in Medicine & Allied, General Surgery, and Anaesthesiology.
- FCPS-II Orthopaedic Surgery is a four-year program for candidates who have cleared FCPS Part-I and completed one or two years of residency in General Surgery.
- FCPS-II Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is a four-year program requiring FCPS Part-I clearance in the relevant field.
- FCPS-II Thoracic Surgery is a three-year program requiring FCPS Part-I clearance and two years of residency completed in General Surgery.
- FCPS-II Radiology is a four-year program requiring FCPS Part-I clearance in the relevant field.
- MCPS Radiology is a two-year program requiring an MBBS degree and a one-year House Job certificate.
- FCPS-II Plastic Surgery is a three-year program requiring FCPS Part-I clearance and two years of residency completed in General Surgery.
- The 2nd Fellowship in Infectious Disease is a two-year program requiring an FCPS Part-II (Medicine & Allied) pass certificate.
- The 2nd Fellowship in Vascular Surgery is a two-year program requiring an FCPS-II (General Surgery) pass certificate.
Eligibility Criteria
- Only candidates possessing a Sindh Domicile are eligible to apply.
- Candidates must possess a valid PMDC registration.
- An MBBS or BDS degree is required as per the specific specialty guidelines.
- Applicants applying for any sub-specialty must have successfully completed two years of mandatory training in the appropriate allied major subjects.
- Candidates waiting for their FCPS-I results may apply at their own risk, but they must produce the successful result prior to appearing for the interview.
- Employees who left the training program before completion or were terminated from training at SMBBIT are strictly not eligible to apply.
Application Procedure
- All applicants must apply online through the SMBB Institute of Trauma website at https://pgme.smbbit.gos.pk.
- Applications submitted directly to the Human Resource department or sent via courier will not be accepted.
- A non-refundable entry test fee of PKR 8,000 must be submitted via bank challan.
- The bank challan must be submitted exclusively to the Sindh Bank Limited Timber Market Branch (0315) in Karachi.
- The completed online application form must be submitted together with the paid challan and the candidate’s CV.
- The absolute deadline for submitting the application and the bank challan is Tuesday, 05th May, 2026.
- Incomplete application forms will not be processed under any circumstances.
Entrance Test and Interview
- The mandatory entrance test will be held on Tuesday, 12th May 2026.
- The venue for the entrance test is the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Institute of Trauma (SMBBIT) in Karachi.
- The written test paper will comprise Single Best Type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with no negative marking applied.
- Candidates will not receive any TA/DA for attending the test or interview.
- Receiving an interview call does not serve as a guarantee for program selection.
Document Verification
- Following the shortlisting process, applicants will be called for document verification.
- Candidates must bring all relevant original documents at the time of verification.
- Required documents include attested photocopies and originals of the FCPS-I pass letter, one-year House Job Certificate, valid CNIC, Sindh Domicile, MBBS Degree, valid PMDC Registration Certificate, RTMC Registration Certificate (if previously registered), and two passport-sized pictures.
- For the 2nd Fellowship program specifically, an FCPS-II certificate is required.
- Candidates already registered in other institutes must produce a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the CPSP at the time of their interview.
Stipend and Joining Regulations
- Postgraduate trainees enrolled in MCPS and FCPS-II will receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 104,390.
- Trainees in the 2nd Fellowship programs will receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 200,000.
- Following selection, successful candidates must join the institute within three days.
- At the time of joining, candidates are required to produce a pay order of Rs. 30,000 in favor of “SHAHEED MOHTARMA BENAZIR BHUTTO INSTITUTE OF TRAUMA POSTGRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION”.
- This pay order is refundable after the completion of training, but it will be forfeited by SMBBIT if the candidate fails to join or complete the training for any reason.
- Government employees must have an NOC from the Health Department ready at the time of the interview.
- Selected government officers will be granted a 15-day joining period if a deputation order is required.
- Selected government officers must submit their NOC, deputation, or posting documentation from the Government of Sindh within one week after selection.
