JPMC Postgraduate Induction 2026 – Complete Guide for Selected Candidates

Following the announcement of the JPMC Postgraduate Induction Merit List for January 2026, many candidates have questions regarding the joining process, ward selection, and the validity of merit lists.

To clarify these concerns, Dr. Imran Ali Arain (Spokesperson YDA JPMC) held a Q&A session with the selected candidates. Below is a summary of the most frequently asked questions and their official answers.

1. Merit List Transparency & “Source” Seats

Q: I heard rumors that seats in departments like Anesthesia are already “sold” or given to candidates with sources (secretariat quota). Is this true? Dr. Imran: The official merit list is transparent. This list is sent directly to the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP). If your name is on the official merit list, your selection is secure, and you will definitely get your RTMC registration. No changes are made to this primary list.

Q: What about the “Second List” or “Source List”? Dr. Imran: Yes, a separate list is often created for candidates with political or administrative backing (sources), known as the 2nd List.

  • This list is sent to CPSP after the merit list.
  • Risk Factor: CPSP sometimes accepts this list and sometimes rejects it. For example, in 2023, the 2nd list was not accepted initially, and those candidates got their RTMC late (in June). In 2024, they were accepted alongside others in February.
  • Advice: Always rely on the official merit list.

2. Joining Process & RTMC Registration

Q: If my name is on the list, is my seat confirmed? Dr. Imran: Yes. If your name is on the list, you are selected. However, do not be negligent. As soon as you receive your offer letter, you must submit your joining report immediately and fill out your RTMC form.

Q: When do we need to submit our joining report? Dr. Imran: You should submit your joining report immediately after receiving your Offer Letter.

Q: Is there a specific deadline to pick up the offer letter? Dr. Imran: Once offer letters are issued, you generally have one week to collect it and submit your joining. Do not delay.

Q: Do we need to pay a security deposit or bring documents for joining? Dr. Imran:

  • Security Deposit: No security deposit is required.
  • Documents: Bring your original documents just in case, though they are usually not checked strictly at this stage.

3. Ward Preferences & Supervisor Selection

Q: When will we know who our supervisor is? Dr. Imran: You will be assigned a supervisor when you submit your joining report to the department.

Q: Which General Surgery wards are the best for training? Dr. Imran: Ward preferences depend on your training goals. Here is the general ranking based on clinical exposure:

  1. Surgical Ward 2 (S2): (HOD: Dr. Mazhar). This ward has a huge variety of cases and a high workload. It is very hectic but the best for rigorous training.
  2. Surgical Ward 26
  3. Surgical Ward 3
  4. Surgical Ward 21: Recommended if you want a less hectic residency.

Q: What about Medicine wards? Dr. Imran: Medical Ward 4 is similar to Surgical Ward 2—high workload, excellent for learning, but very hectic.

4. Interviews & Next Steps

Q: Will there be interviews for everyone? Dr. Imran: Not for everyone.

  • Interviews will be conducted only for specialties where ward selection is mandatory (like General Surgery or Medicine where multiple units exist).
  • Direct Offer Letters: Candidates in specialties without ward subdivisions (or single-unit departments) will receive their offer letters without an interview.

Q: What is the date for collecting offer letters? Dr. Imran: Candidates are expected to visit the administration block around January 10th. Whether you get the letter on Monday or Tuesday, you can give your joining immediately upon receipt.
